Back in 2022, the Festival of the Lost threw a real bone to title hunters with the Ghost Writer seal. This title was the featured reward of Destiny 2's Halloween-style event, and it gave players a three-week window to rack up Event Challenges. For completists, it wasn't just a cosmetic flex—earning Ghost Writer meant proving a Guardian could knuckle down and clear the seasonal checklist before the event packed up and left. Fast forward to 2026, and the seal still gets brought up by veteran players who remember the grind.

Eva Levante and the Event Card 🎃

Upon logging in during the event period, players found Eva Levante hanging around The Tower, ready to hand out rewards and bounties. The Event Card system, first introduced during Solstice, made a return. It tracked progress across every Event Challenge, which was a godsend for anyone trying to keep tabs on a long list. When the event wrapped, the card vanished, so procrastinators were out of luck. The three-week deadline meant Guardians had to stay on their toes, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Event Challenges worked like seasonal Triumphs, but they were only available during Festival of the Lost. That meant the checklist was not a forever sort of thing. Players who dawdled had to wave goodbye to the Ghost Writer title until Bungie decided to bring the seal back. In other words, hitting the ground running was the name of the game.

The 16 Event Challenges 👻

Ghost Writer required completion of 16 Event Challenges. None of the individual tasks were rocket science, but the clock was the real enemy. One of the most straightforward was Happy Haunting Ground, which asked Guardians to finish 35 rounds in the Haunted Sector playlist. Other challenges pushed players toward specific weapon archetypes or required wearing a Festival Mask in various activities. In short, the seal rewarded steady play rather than a single clutch moment.

Smart Guardians double-dipped by knocking out bounties and Event Challenges at the same time. That approach saved a ton of time and kept the grind from being a total slog.

Challenge Focus What Players Had To Do Notes
Haunted Sectors Finish 35 rounds for Happy Haunting Ground Straightforward but time-consuming
Weapon Archetypes Use specific weapon types across activities Check the Event Card for kill requirements
Festival Mask Wear the mask during different modes Stack with bounties for better efficiency
Event Participation Complete general festival tasks Usually easy but easy to forget

Gilding the Seal ✨

For completionists who wanted to go the extra mile, the Ghost Writer Seal could be gilded before the event ended. That required finishing four separate challenges on top of the base seal. It was a nice bit of extra shine for players who had already cleared the main list and still had gas in the tank. Gilding was not mandatory, but it gave a certain type of Guardian bragging rights in the Tower.

The gilded version was the cherry on top for those who treated Festival of the Lost like a second job. Even so, the main title was the big-ticket item, and most players were more than happy to walk away with that.

Loot and the Final Deadline ⏰

While chasing the title, Guardians also scooped up exclusive loot, including weapons, a shader, and an Exotic ship. That made the grind feel less like a chore and more like a proper trick-or-treat run. The event's reward pool gave even casual players a reason to hop into Haunted Sectors and join the fun.

At the time, the event ran until November 8, 2022. Anyone who wanted the Ghost Writer title had to get it done before that date. The deadline was no joke, and many players found themselves scrambling in the final hours to finish those last few challenges. For those who pulled it off, the title became a badge of honor—and a reminder that in Destiny 2, the grind never really sleeps.
